Toffees Lodge Formal Appeal Against Points Deduction
LONDON, April 15, 2024 – Chelsea put on a dominant display to thrash Everton 6-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, with Cole Palmer bagging a brace in a scintillating performance.
The Toffees, who are already struggling with a points deduction for breaching financial regulations, endured a torrid evening as Palmer ran riot for the Blues.
The England youth international opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a stunning solo effort, weaving his way through the Everton defense before firing home.
Palmer doubled Chelsea's advantage 20 minutes later with a well-taken header from a Hakim Ziyech cross.
Academy product Harvey Gilchrist marked his first-team debut with a goal in the 90th minute, sending the Stamford Bridge crowd into raptures.
Meanwhile, Everton have lodged a formal appeal against their second points deduction for breaching financial regulations.
The Merseyside club were initially deducted six points in February but have now been hit with a further nine-point penalty, leaving them in the Premier League relegation zone.
Everton claim they have been unfairly punished and are confident their appeal will be successful.
